Reasons for Allied Victory
To finish the War we began with the text book, Evidence of War ( green book).
We began by reading and discussing "Attitudes to War and Turning Points", p.97. We followed this with reading and discussing the sections on US entry into the War in April, 1917, p.100; the Russian defeat and Treaty of Brest-Litovsk, March, 1918, pp 101-102.
Ludendorff's Spring Offensive and the Allied response pp 102-103 was our next focus followed by the reasons for Allied victory pp 104-106.
This work was consolidated with written work from the Edmodo folder The End of the War - Germany Capitulates, End of War Questions, End of War Account, Aftermath of WWI.
The War was truly over with the last bit of work on the Treaty of Versailles and the establishment of the Weimar Republic. This work is on Edmodo March 3, 2014 - Background (cost of the war, human and economic), Background to the treaty (includes questions), Treaty of Versailles (questions), Treaty of Versailles (table/worksheet), Beginning of the Republic (revolution and counter-rev)

Homefront
Almost to the end of February and hopefully the War. This month we have studied Conscription and Recruitment and looked at how this tied in with propaganda. Apart from the relevant sections in Evidence of War we used the Homefront.pdf in the Core Study-WWI folder on Edmodo. This information is also at World War One Mohi.
From Conscription and Recruitment we moved on to the Homefront of both Germany and Britain and completed a group activity entitled "Impact of Total War". This can be found on Edmodo/Core Study -WWI/Homefront.pdf. Each group's results were shared with the rest of the class. The Germany data, collected last year, has been included in The Home Front at World War One Mohi.

Propaganda
Back at school and finally, the new text books arrived. So now everyone has a text book, though not all the same edition.
In our one and only lesson last week we began looking at Propaganda. We read the information in the text book and then together considered a series of examples from both sides of the conflict.
Homework was to read the section in the text book on the use of photography in propaganda in WWI.
Monday's double period began with everyone answering the questions accompanying the propaganda examples in World War One MoHi.
From there we moved on to the text book and the source analysis questions on Propaganda.

Work was posted on Edmodo during the holidays.
It covered pages 68-80 from Evidence of War and was intended as revision and consolidation of the work done so far on the Western Front.
The intention was to complete the source analysis questions and review questions and to submit an answer to the extended response questions, p.74, for marking.

Lead up to the Armistice
Tuesday, 17/12/13 we had our last double period for the year. The select Moho group watched Days that Shook the World - The War to End All Wars on BBC iPlayer.
This generated quite a bit of discussion. Next term, the rest of the class will watch this video - everyone needs to see it.

Before the Holidays
On Thursday, 12/12/13 we completed the work on Changing Attitudes that we began during Tuesday's double.
I notified everyone that I would begin posting work on Edmodo on January 8.
We finished up with an episode of Blackadder Goes Forth - Corporal Punishment.

Changing Attitudes to the War
In Monday's double we began looking at the way in which attitudes, both on the battlefront and the home front, changed during the course of the war.
Edmodo/Group Posts/8 Dec, 2013/Some Resources-Changing attitudes in WWI
Resources - Blendspace
Edmodo/Core Study-WWI/12. War Poems, 13. The War Poets
We considered a number of the War Poets and their writings between 1914 and 1918 and noted the change in perspective during that time. The Blendspace (see link above) provided a variety of resources - video clips to do with the Christmas Truce, images, web links, war poets, worksheet, quotes from men at the Front. Some of these we used in class, some are for extra-reading etc.
In Tuesday's lesson we considered the reasons for the changing attitudes and then studied and catergorised a series of quotes from soldiers and others involved on the Western Front.
The quotes can be found at Resources - Blendspace.
