Breaking the Stalemate 1

Today, we extended and consolidated our work on weapons.  Everyone completed the worksheet "Weapons of World War One" using the information posted on Edmodo by members of the class and the website Spartacus Educational:

Edmodo/Nov 10, 2013/ weapons worksheet

Edmodo/c.Oct 30, 2013 / gas, flamethrowers, etc.

Next, we looked at Bloom's Taxonomy and discussed its use in framing HSC source analysis questions in preparation for our next activity.  This will involve an analysis of the strategies and tactics used on the Western Front through the sources.

Finally, we began watching an episode of Blackadder goes Forth, Captain Cook.

Weapons of World War One

Mr Byrne introduced the topic.  The class was divided into groups, each group having to research one of the weapons.

We watched the video, "Weapons of the Great War".

Groups then worked on their research.

The results of the research were presented to the class and the notes posted on Edmodo:
Edmodo/Core Study-WW1/weapons of the Great War.

Weapons studied: machine gun, flamethrowers, gas, sappers (undermining), grenades, tanks.
